THE SCHEMES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF WELFARE OF DISABLED

The thrust of the Directorate of The Welfare of Disabled is to bring the persons with disabilities in to mainstream of the society and to focus on their abilities rather than their disabilities. The Dept. is pursuing a multi dimension approach for overall welfare and development of the PWD's. Karnataka is the first state to give monthly maintenance allowance of Rs.400 to 4 lakhs persons with disabilities and Rs.1000/- is being paid for the persons who have 75% and higher percentage of above disability.

The State Govt. have issued state policy and listed out the important steps to be undertaken by different Depts. with regard to Health, Education, Justice and creation of Barrier free environment and ensure disabled friendly society.

State Govt. of Karnataka has notified Central Act PWD Act 1995 during the year 1996 & is implementing through office of the Commissioner for Persons with Disability Act, Karnataka rules are framed by Govts. and Notified in 2004. Further the rules have been amended during the year 2007. Accordingly 3% of the sectoral budget is to be earmarked the disabled. The policy of preferential and concessional allotment of houses, sites to PWDs is being implemented. It is mandatory to provide 3% of posts in respect of Group A and B posts and 5% of posts in respect of Group C and D posts. The important schemes of the Department shall be highlighted as follows:
